WHO WE ARE

meet the luther family! JOhn and Jeanne luther opened sola’s doors in march of 2012. SOla is a family-owned neighborhood café in the community of north raleigh. our heartbeat is to love on this community and serve each of you as we welcome you into sola through food and drink and friendship.

we serve counter culture coffee and delicious fresh food. we invite you to share conversations and build relationships over our handcrafted drinks and artisan foods, and strive to create a memorable experience for our guests every time they walk through our doors.

in august of 2018, our lives changed when jeanne was diagnosed with ALS (lou gehrig’s disease). on april 12, 2022 our beloved jeanne went home to jesus. our als journey was not one without hope as our hope is in a god who sent his son to redeem the brokenness in our world. our als was met daily with sufficient grace that COMFORTED us amidst tears and EXTRAORDINARY sadness. as a small way to honor her, we host our annual sola hot mini 5k to end als. since her diagnoses, we have raised over half a million dollars for als.

John, his daughter sally, and her husband Colin now run the store as a family, doing their best to honor jeanne’s heart for our community by serving faithfully each day.

To fully understand Sola, We welcome you to come by to see, taste, and experience what we have to offer. We are thankful everyday for this city, our team, and the people that have made us who we are today.

Refugee Hope Partners

Right in the middle of North Raleigh, there is a growing community at Cedar Point Apartments, a door to the nations of the world. Many families have come from all over to reside in this place. Since 2007 we have counted it a privilege to serve this community with the love of Christ. We desire to partner with local churches in loving our refugee neighbors with the hope of the gospel. We commit to respecting the dignity and competence of everyone, and to supporting families as they continue to grow and flourish in a new environment. Our programs, activities, and relationships consciously avoid imposing our cultural standards on their lives, fostering patterns of dependence, or treating people as a means to the end of our own growth or achievement. We will respectfully and sacrificially walk alongside our neighbors as they grow in their relationship with God and others. We engage families and individuals as they face cultural, practical & emotional hurdles. We equip hands, minds, and souls for independence with dignity. We encourage healthy relationships & spiritual growth so that ALL MAY THRIVE! Interested in getting involved personally or financially? There are many opportunities to serve, give, and pray.

Roc Solid Foundation® builds hope for kids fighting cancer by offering opportunities for them to do what they do best – PLAY. Roc Solid offers custom Playsets for for children battling cancer in the backyard and “Ready Bags” for hospital visits. A new backyard playset not only provides a safe haven for play, but it also represents an escape from the reality of fighting cancer, and most importantly, hope for the future. Interested in getting involved personally or financially? The “Play It Forward” program makes for a great team building opportunity, gathering a team up to go serve together by building a playset together. We have had the opportunity to build a playset for a staff party!!
